The issue of author's rights protection is a tangible one today due to numerous possibilities for general public to steal almost anything ever been copyrighted.
I remember myself a couple of years ago very much worried about people stealing my ideas of transforming the Ukrainian society and so on. I've overestimated people's will to do anything at all. They turn out not only to lazy to produce new ideas, to think, to change the world around them for the better – they've simply despised my initiatives.
So people steal only really worthy, flashy things – to enjoy themselves and, though much more rarely, to promote themselves.
And I think that it is really must be recognized that the authors of some artefacts are to be respected, paid for their job and so on. But there must be a way to get the access to this artefact for free.
Those who are able to pay – must pay. Those who aren't and still are willing to access the artefact must be paid for by those who really can afford it.
So that movies and music must be available online legally but cinemas, radio, tv channels and other media or any institution using the product for commerce must pay more – to compensate for those who simply get the artefact for free.
People will keep visiting cinemas, listen to radio and watch TV – just because they need to be directed in their choices. And still they will keep on buying CDs, DVDs and books just because we are all fetishists.
And for me the most important part of it all is mentioning of the author. Simply copying work and putting it on somewhere online without any name behind it seems really mean to me.
If not money author deserves fame, respect or disapproval – whatever is it general public is kind enough to grant to her.
