The difference between a dream and art is more notorious than one can probably get at first glance. While dreaming you’re idle and while producing a piece of art you’re creating something. Art is sort of putting your dream into life, it’s labour rather than leisure. And even if life isn’t quite flesh and blood – it is still real. People can’t touch it but they can actually get acquainted with is. In order to show your dream to the people you need to bring it to life in some sort of material form. A piece of art is crafted, it is material, and the artist – in words or substances, materializes it. A dream is unsubstantial.
While dreaming you simply follow the flight of your thought, you relax and float within your dream, you enjoy and passively accept what your subconscious has to say to you. You don’t even try to remember it – as otherwise the spell of the dream will be broken. And while creating a piece of art you work, you work hard, it takes time, emotions, feelings and the whole of your attention. Well, the dream consumes time and attention too but for producing a piece of art you need to concentrate in order to sacrifice your time and attention, you enjoy it but you make mental effort to produce art.
You’re exhausted but satisfied after having created your masterpiece and on the contrary you’re relaxed and idle after having (day-)dreamt for a minute or an hour.
This is the difference between these two so similar at first glance activities. One being an undertaking and the other – just an entertainment.
Don’t be lazy and put your dreams into art – let the humanity enjoy with you.
P.S. That difference is actually why I ask my visitors, my dear readers to distinguish my fiction from my life – because my fiction is a product of my hard work, my fiction is refined dreams, edited life experiences, twisted perceptions and mixed feelings. Lots of influences change my vision of this life into what I produce as art: thousands of books, authors, movies, songs, some random videos and quotes, some accidental conversations and accidental knowledge, false impressions, the art itself demands some certain form and content – that all constitutes my worldview and make my thought take fly. And this flight is high, my mind is clear and heart is open – I create art, which is purely art, pure feelings and emotions, no down-to-earths, down-to-real-life-experiences. I take the best, the most valuable (as I consider it) from this life and put it in words or pictures. Please, enjoy it or leave it.
Thank you all for being with me, for being caring and not indifferent, for criticizing and evaluating, just for being here with me. I hope I made a minute or two of your life seem more full, I dare to claim to be able to help you realize some truths of this life I’ve opened to myself.
